Sunday Evening Concert Cancelled due to weather

We regretfully have to cancel tonight’s Sunday Evening Concert in Gore Park, Elmira due to rain that shows every sign of continuing into the evening. Nature has sure been very uncooperative this year! Hopefully, things will improve for the rest of the season!

The Commercial Bluegrass band at Gore park

DSC00936

Last Sunday night, The Commercial Bluegrass band appeared at The Sunday Night Concert Series in Gore Park. The weather threatened, it dripped rain here and there, but a small crowd did stick it out and got an entertaining evening of fine Bluegrass music. The rain held off until the very last song – then the heavens opened and it poured!  If you missed them, this band appears regularly at the Commercial Tavern in Maryhill on alternate Wednesday evenings.

In spite of the “dampness”, it was  a better result than the previous week, when Steve Piticco and South Mountain were cancelled altogetehr, because of absolutely horrible weather conditions.

You can see by the photos that the boys did have fun!

Larry Mercey Returns!

Larry Mercey in Gore Park, 20102010-5716We’re pleased to present Larry Mercey at this Sunday’s Concert in Elmira’s Gore Park.

Larry and Lynn go way back. If I’m not mistaken, the very first band Larry played in was Lynn’s Pine River Troubadors in the 1950’s.   Later on, when Larry formed his family band The Mercey Brothers Lynn co-wrote “Just A Snap of Your Fingers,” one of their first hits.

In the 70’s, Lynn recorded his Hummingbirds Play It Long And Lonesome album in the Mercey Brothers Elmira based recording studio.

Larry Mercey in Gore Park, 2010In the ’90’s Lynn and Larry served as founding members on the the CKNX Barndance Historical Society and Entertainment Museum board of directors together.

Larry’s first appearance in the 2010 Gore Park Concert series came to an abrupt halt when a major storm hit.  Lynn and Larry have been trying to bring Larry back ever since.  Now that it’s finally happening, unfortunately Lynn won’t be there since he’s down in Iowa with his son Lance at the NTCMA Old Time Country Music Festival. Of course Larry was one of the many musicians to perform at the CD release Party for Lynn’s award winning “Singing My Songs” CD.

Even so, if you’re a Country Music fan, Larry Mercey’s Sunday Concert in Gore Park ~ 7:00 pm on August 31st, 2014 ~ is one you won’t want to miss!

Next weekend Earl Fries will be performing the last concert of the season.

Steve Parkinson & Stony Lonesome #Country Music

Lynn is playing in Wingham on the Barn Dance this afternoon, but he’ll be back to help Steve Parkinson & Stony Lonesome set up for their scheduled concert in Gore Park — weather permitting. The weather forecast for today threatens bad weather, so check it before heading out, and stay safe.

We’ll keep our fingers crossed for nice weather, but if there is a thunderstorm, the show in the park will be cancelled. I am unable to attend this one, as I’ll be in Oakville for an outdoor concert — there are threatened thunderstorms for there, too! In the past I’ve noticed Elmira seems to be in its own little weather zone, so you might want to check Environment Canada’s Exeter Weather Radar (Elmira is between Kitchener and Guelph) to see what’s coming.

Fingers crossed that the nasty weather blows over us all and we have blue skies!

Tonight’s performers at the Elmira Summer Concert Series are the Peace River Band, a fine bluegrass group from Niagara Region.

Although the weather was looking a little damp this morning, Environment Canada predicts the rain will be done in the afternoon, bringing sun and cloud for the rest of the day.

Stay tuned to Lynn’s blog, his Russwurm Social or Twitter feed, or the Lynn Russwurm Country page on Facebook for updates if there should be any change the program because of weather.
