Paul Weber is returning to Gore Park this Sunday!
Last August, Paul Weber’s Family Band put on quite a show in Elmira!
With Paul taking the lead

and sister Sue Weber Bell stepping up to sing
add the support from Mike Eagles on Drums
Ken Groomes on Fiddle
and Mike Eedy on Keyboard
the result is a happy crowd!
Rumour has it that Paul will be bringing along TWO steel guitars this year!

Last weekend Lynn and his son Lance performed in Watford, Ontario, for the first annual “Art Social Day.”
Art Social Day was spearheaded by local mural artist, Francis Martin, who initially rented the building as a studio in which he could paint a mural. The input of the local art community prompted Francis to keep the space going as an art hub for the area.
The Art Shop is a Gallery space, as well as a venue for art classes, and a host for community participation like Art Social Day and I suspect a whole lot more.
The community event was part of Lambton County’s 2014 Doors Open event.
Lynn’s daughter, Liana Russwurm, a fine artist living and working in nearby Alvinston, has had a space in The Art Shop for the past year. She turned the day into a family affair by inviting Lynn and her brother Lance to participate.

Art Social Day was a resounding success, so I have no doubt there will be another next year. When I get Time I will be uploading some video to YouTube.
Back in Elmira tonight (Sunday June 29th, 2014) the Muir Family is scheduled to perform at Lynn’s Sunday Concert series in Gore Park (note: weather permitting — if the thunderstorm in the weather forecast makes an appearance I expect it will be cancelled. UPDATE: The Thurnderstorm was just finishing up by 7pm. so the Muir Family went on as sceduled, only starting a few minures late. A good time was had by all 🙂)

On Thursday Lynn again performed as a single act at Leisureworld, and he played another gig for the Elmira Seniors at the Woolwich Memorial centre today.
Saturday Lynn and his son Lance will be performing at noon for Art Social Day at daughter Liana Russwurm’s The Art Shop in Watford, during Doors Open Lambton County.
On Sunday afternoon The Two Plus Who will be performing Music in the Park in Erin, Ontario and then Sunday Night Lynn will be back in Elmira for his Sunday Concert series. This week’s concert is featuring Rural Appetite. Here are a few photos from their concert last year:

An all day rain storm made it necessary to cancel Earl Fries’ performance last week. Luckily blue skies and sunshine are the only forecast for in Lynn Russwurm’s Summer Concert Series tomorrow, so come on out to Gore Park tomorrow for Father’s Day.
By clicking on their name, you can see and hear Rescue Junction on their own website, but I don’t have any of my own pictures of the band (yet).
What I do have is this photo of my Dad performing on the Barn Dance this year, and I just can’t think of anything better to put on my Dad’s blog for Father’s Day. Except maybe this one:

Earl Fries returns for a special performance on Sunday, 7 September 2014.
Due to the rain the Elmira Summer Concert with Earl Fries has been cancelled.
The concert for Sunday, 8 June 2014 has been cancelled because of the rain. Hopefully we’ll have Earl back for a guest spot later in the season.

On Sunday, June 8th, 2014 Earl Fries will be appearing in Gore Park, Elmira for our second Sunday Concert of the 2014 summer season.
Earl Fries is probably most known for his appearance on the Silver Bar Ranch playing guitar with the Silver Bar Ranch Boys, and later as one of the founding members of The Chaparrals. This photo of Earl and his son Greg was taken at Bingemans a “few” years back.

The Sunday afternoon show was sold out and they had to turn people away.
Lynn was backed up by his ad hoc band of all stars, including Gerry Smith, Jay Riehl, Al Widmeyer, and (not pictured) Ron Coulthard and Royce Riehl
The event was a fundraiser to restore the historic building, owned and operated by the Mitchell Agricultural Society. Part of the magic of the building is its unique shape, and I suspect that contributes to the building’s maintenance challenge. The rest of the magic is its unique place in the history of Canadian Country Music, and more importantly, in the memories of all the peopl whose lives have been touched by it.
A good time was had by all.

Today, Lynn Russwurm will be guest starring at The Crystal Palace Ballroom
The Crystal Palace Ballroom is located at the intersection of Wellington and Waterloo Streets in Mitchell, Ontario. You can’t miss it — because the building is round!
In the 50’s, when Lynn and Laura Performed as a duet, guesting on the CKNX Barndance or the Main Street Jamboree, they were the Pine River Sweethearts, because Lynn’s full band was “The Pine River Troubadors”. They played all over Southern Ontario.
When there weren’t paying gigs, Lynn made his own. One of the halls he rented to put on his own show & dance was The Crystal Palace Ballroom in Mitchell, Ontario. Lynn knew the venue because The Pine River Sweethearts had already played there with the Barndance.
And today, Lynn will be performing there again, this time he’ll be playing at the fundraiser to restore the historic Crystal Palace Ballroom building to its former glory.
